Locally Made Gifts for the Yogi in Your Life
I think it’s fun to shop locally and there are so many shops and crafts fairs on Cape Cod this time of year. If you are searching for just the right gift for the yogi in your life, check out some of the ideas below. (Or maybe you want to add these to your wish list!)
Buddha Buns I spied one of these beautiful meditation pillows at Centerville Yoga a few weeks back. These pillows are called Zafa cushions, and according to the Facebook page, “These cushions raise the hips making the entire range of the cross-legged sitting positions more stable for meditating.” They look very inviting and comfortable. Check out more designs and find locations to purchase here
Gillian Hurrie Inspired Designs I love my bracelet, chakra necklace, and mala from Gillian Hurrie. I specifically purchased them because of the gemstones and the quality of each piece. According to the website Gillian Hurrie offers “lovingly hand-crafted jewelry meant to make you feel unique, empowered and inspired. Each piece can offer therapeutic benefits infused by the gemstones’ healing energies.” Check out her designs on line or purchase at a retail location. Many yoga studios on Cape Cod offer Gillian Hurrie jewelry.
Yoga studios, spas and wellness centers on Cape Cod all offer gift certificates in any denomination for many different services including Reiki and massage. Class passes are also a great gift and in many studios can be used over the course of a few months to a year. Consider a gift certificate for a workshop or specialty class for a yoga who wants something in addition to weekly classes. Also check out my 4 week class at Cotuit Center for the Arts for those who are new to yoga.
Cape Cod Soy Candle With a line of yoga inspired candles like Namaste and Zen Garden, what yogi wouldn’t love these beautiful candles. These dye free candles have been made on Cape Cod since 2008. During the open house at Village Yoga last month, the scent of Namaste really perfumed the air and welcomed all who entered the studio. Find these candles at many locations on the Cape and in some Whole Foods Stores in New England.
Yogi Tea How about a nice tea pot, cup and a batch of homemade yogi tea? It’s delicious after a yoga class or because of it’s healing properties, delicious to enjoy at any time. Check out local pottery shops for cups and tea pots. If you don’t want to make the tea you could put the ingredients in a pretty glass jar and include the recipe. In your glass jar include the following for Yoga Bhajan’s Original Yogi Tea:
20 whole cloves
20 whole green cardamom pods
20 whole black peppercorns
5 sticks of cinnamon
Star Struck Art Designs Check out the cards and clothing designed by Centerville, MA yogi and artist Mary Catherine Starr. Comfy sweatshirts (I got mine a few years ago from a friend for Christmas), t-shirts and beautiful hand made cards can be purchased on Etsy and in some local yoga stores.
Practice with me during the month of December. You can find my weekly class schedule or sign up for a workshop here.
